Fantastic Voyage - Research and Early Concepts

I started researching the Carbon Cycle and after Jordan's lesson I definitely want to see where I can take this. Jordan suggested that the Carbon atom is a hippy because how it can be transferred on like a free spirit. He also suggested that I might want to add subtle adult humor to try and appeal more to my target audience (14-16). 

I started looking at science illustrations which then lead me to finding Rachel Ignotofsky, whose style adds character but without being too childish for my target audience. In Jordan's lesson he showed us 

Eran Hilleli's animation for Style Frames, which I liked the colour palette so I included screenshots 

in my Influence map. In terms of style Jordan suggested I look at Pendleton Ward, who I started looking at for my earlier drawings (3,4 and 5).
