Minor project - Reflective Statement

I started Minor very optimistic to create my film and translate what I had done in 2D into 3D. Having redesigned my characters as well it motivated me more. However, I should have been more aware of the gaps in my designs and logic of my world to fully bring it to life, which would then help with the 3D aspect. During this project I unknowingly was uncertain and not very confident in some of the decisions I was making which caused some problems with my progression with my 3D work such as; the lack of design and development.

Modelling my characters presented itself a challenge for me. As well as, modelling two birds my uncertainty leaked into my modelling which not only affected the way I modelled but what I modelled. The process I went through was similar to my peers but also quite different. Things we had learnt about modelling a character would either apply to my project or would not be needed at all. Finding the right balance between the two was difficult in some areas due to my uncertainty. However, after making a lot of mistakes and correcting them either myself or with help, it was a really proud moment seeing my models finished.

I think during this project I allowed myself to get a bit too distracted on days when I was working at the university. It created the idea that I was doing work without actually progressing. Most days were definitely productive, but there was one too many where I achieved nothing in a day. This is an easy thing to fix and I will going into major.

Putting together my submission post did make me feel quite proud of some of the work I had done. As mentioned modelling and trying to rig a bird was different and difficult, but being where I am now and learning what I have from the process has been fulfilling. I will definitely take what I have learnt ahead and work faster so I can reach animating as soon as possible. However, while creating my submission I also felt as if I could have done more. Handing in was meant to be a moment of relief and sense of accomplishment. Which I did feel, but the looming feeling of what could have been was there. This is something personal, but I need to remember that the only person who can do something to change that is myself.

Overall, I am looking forward to getting my feedback for this project, taking that onboard and improve my film to make it the best it can be.
