Hey Alfie, so further to your critique feedback, I think what will help you will be to identify a strong over-arching concept for the look of your whole world that gives you design principles that help constrain things like shapes, simplicity, colour palette and so on... We were looking at early 20th century 'tin toys' - which are essentially characterised as 'simple shapes' with detailed pained surfaces: this look chimes with Charlie Harper, because of that same emphasis on strong profiled shapes and the detail coming from additions to flat surfaces...
